Description

Eastman E20 OO Adirondack Spruce/Rosewood

Inspired by the iconic parlor style, pre-war guitars from the 1930s, the OO is a short scale 12-fret vintage “blues box.” Our smaller bodied OO features a premium blend of select mahogany, solid spruce, and rosewood tonewoods. The smaller upper bout coupled with a larger lower bout and thin soundbox makes the OO a comfort to play and ideal for a smaller, quieter room. Favored by everyone from old blues players to folk and Americana, to virtually guitarists of any musical genre, the OO transitions playing styles seamlessly from fingerstyle to strumming to a bottleneck slide. From the back porch to the stage to recording sessions in the studio, the OO is a versatile guitar that fits into any players collection.

The Eastman guitar company is a bit of an undiscovered and underated goldmine to many guitarists, just because they are manufactured in China doesn't mean they are second rate to American or European Luthiers, such as Martin, Gibson, Collings or indeed Lowden. Their secret to quality & craftsmanship, which can be felt and heard the moment you pick the guitar up, is that they started making classical instruments like violins/ Cello's / mandolins etc, everything is made by hand with chisels rasp's etc.
I had a E20P, parlour which was also brilliant but I had to trade for a vintage Gibson, never got over that, so when the OO version came out I knew that was THE ONE for me. Soon as I picked it up and strummed an open G chord I knew I was blessed, what a sound, kinda like a cross between a Lowden and a piano! Yes, I did say Piano. It just has that amazing blend of harmonics like piano strings. As well as the most beautiful Bass and sustain to die for, you can keep yer Martins(I will) Taylor's etc, the Collings OO2H is nearly £4000, I don't think it could outdo the Eastman, but I didn't try it, just in case!!
Ivor Mairants music shop has gotta be one of the best in the West End now. An absolutely enormous and diverse stock list, all the top end Acoustics, middle & lower ranges as well, the most interesting collection of electrics, stuff I've not seen anywhere else! And Amps as well, the whole new Supro range, Blackstar, etc etc. This place is truly dynamic now( I used to think it was a crusty old shop lost in a time warp) OH NO, you gotta check it out, if your a guitarist, bassist, drummer etc, you won't believe the treasure's that now adorn this Alladdin's Cave!
The really special touch was to fit a passive pickup to my ( only put down £200 deposit) partially owned guitar, how trusting is that! And when I got home and opened the case, Phil had slipped in a beautiful Eastman cleaning cloth, a tortoiseshell pickguard(my choice to fit it or not) and a special truss rod adjuster! Very special people in that shop, that Man has been around & seen it all!
So, if yer thinkin' about a top quality Acoustic, you MUST try an Eastman first, AND you MU$T check out Ivor Mairants Iconic Guitar Store!
Thank you to the amazingly helpful, fun & interesting staff there.
Much Love, Dave.
